AFGE Joins Other Unions in COVID-19 Vaccination Push

AFGE has joined other unions in urging union members to get vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Since February last year, COVID-19 has killed more than 600,000 people in the U.S. For working people, getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is a matter of life and death.

“Government workers have been serving on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic since the spring of 2020. Unfortunately, in that time we lost hundreds of AFGE members to this deadly disease,” said AFGE President Everett Kelley. “That’s why it’s important that each of us takes this opportunity to get vaccinated.”

Vaccination is our way out of this once-in-a-century crisis. Virus cases and deaths are dropping thanks to the vaccines.

As of June 25, about 53.7% of the total population have received at least one dose of the vaccine. 45.6% have been fully vaccinated.

But an outbreak of the Delta variant is posing a new threat to our country’s health care system and our return to normal. The Delta variant is 60% more transmissible and is on track to become the dominant strain in the U.S. within weeks. As a result, cases and deaths are expected to shoot up in areas where vaccination rates are low.

We've made it this far in combating pandemic, providing much needed economic and material support to our members and their families and electing pro-worker majorities in Congress and the White House.

Now let's do our part in making sure our members are protected against the coronavirus. This is our shot!
